My friend Beau Hufford is curating a Vespa-themed art show called Eye Heart Vespa out in San Diego. He asked a bunch of us to contribute a piece to it. I came up with this 12"x 12" routed MDF, pink-glitter painted Vespa. It was a fun little project.

On Friday night Randy and I finished routing the last pile of letter pieces. With no time to waste, I moved right to step 2 on Sunday: painting! Armed with an awesome paint gun (again, thanks to Randy!), an XXL paint suit and a 5 gallon bucket of "Licorice Stick" exterior latex paint, I managed to coat both sides of 8 sheets in about 6.5 hours. Only 6 days of painting (48 sheets to paint) left before I can start adding lights!

After getting the official "okay" from the Parks Board earlier this week, I've gone into full production mode! This weekend is the first weekend of routing letters. All the work is being done with the generous help of Randy Johnson, editor at American Woodworker Magazine. We are working in their shop in Eagan, MN and using their ShopBot router with a 4' x 8' bed. After setting up and some expected troubleshooting, we are in full swing. Everything is getting cut with the 1/2" end mill bit you see below. We've even found that stacking multiple sheets gives us super efficient cutting time- 3 pieces in one pass!

This week there was a competition on Facebook for the Yo Gabba Gabba! Cupcake wars. The catch? Make your Yo Gabba Gabba cupcakes as creative as possible, take a picture and post it on Facebook for voting. I won't know the results until next week, but here are some images from my entry. This was tons of fun- two of my favorite things together in one!
